Churches unite for Good Friday walks of witness

Members of local churches of many denominations joined together on Friday to mark Good Friday with walks of witness and short services in public spaces.

Local Christians – including members of Southwark's Anglican Cathedral, the Most Precious Blood RC church, Crossway URC and Christ Church in Blackfriars Road – gathered at St Matthew's-at-the-Elephant in Meadow Row.

The walk of witness ended at the RC church of Our Lady of La Salette and St Joseph in Melior Street, near Guy's Hospital, where hot cross buns were served.

Members of St George's Roman Catholic Cathedral and Lambeth Mission & St Mary's gathered in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park to walk to Waterloo Station, where they were joined by the congregation of St John's Waterloo for a short service on the station concourse. The blessing was given by the Anglican Bishop of Kingston, Rt Revd Richard Cheetham.
