Waterloo is getting safer says Livingstone

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has welcomed new crime figures which show that robbery has been cut by a third in Waterloo.

Commenting on the latest Lambeth crime figures, Mr Livingstone said: "At local level there are some really startling results. In Waterloo area (Bishop's ward) violence against the person fell 25 per cent and 15 per cent in the Oval area. Robbery also fell 34 per cent in Waterloo and 9 per cent in the Oval.

"High profile violent incidents which have gained widespread media attention in Lambeth should not overshadow the real improvements that are being made by the police, Lambeth council and local communities."

The Mayor added: "This is real progress but we must not be complacent. Now that Safer Neighbourhood police teams are in place across Lambeth, I urge the police and community to redouble their efforts to keep crime falling and make our streets safer."
