Old Kent Road shooting: masked man seen in Lidl car park

London SE1 website team

Police are appealing for witnesses to a shooting in the Old Kent Road in the early hours of Monday 27 August.

Police officers were called by ambulance staff to the incident which happened at 4.19am on Bank Holiday Monday morning outside Virgo's nightclub on the southern side of Old Kent Road.

On arrival officers found a woman in her thirties suffering from several gunshot wounds. She was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

Police officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who might have seen a masked male in Lidl car park a short time before the shots were fired.

According to a police spokesman the man, who is described as black, left the car park, (which is towards the rear of the nightclub) having first put on his mask. He then made his way down a side alley towards the entrance of the club where it is believed he fired several shots into the crowd, several of which hit the victim who had gone out to get some fresh air.

The spokesman says that whilst the police are keeping an open mind regarding the motive, officers are investigating the possible link to an earlier altercation which occurred at 1.15am outside the nightclub involving four black males and door staff.

The four men were eventually admitted into the premises but are known to have left a short time later at approximately 2am.

Officers from Trident South Shootings Team are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call DS Peter Hine on 020 8785 8580 or to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
