Skyscraper inquiry next April

There is overwhelming support for London Bridge Tower says the Pool of London's Linda Houston who predicts that the public inquiry will start next April.

Linda Houston, Pool of London Partnership Director, was speaking at the AGM where she also described the London Bridge Station masterplan as essential.

Leading SE1 figures were gathered at historic Trinity House for this year's AGM as the City of London took its turn in hosting the event. Among those present were Southwark Council officers and representatives of Transport for London. Simon Hughes MP arrived direct from the Liberal Democrat conference at Brighton.

After a report on a year of environmental improvements, including Great Maze Pond at Guy's, there was a look ahead to an increased working population being able to sustain a supermarket in Tooley Street by 2004.

The proposed London Bridge Tower, off Borough High Street, is higher than Canary Wharf and if built would be Europe's tallest building.
