M&S beats Sainsbury’s to Waterloo

London SE1 website team

Marks & Spencer is opening a store in SE1 next month.

The M&S store will be a Simply Food outlet on Waterloo Station's main concourse. The space was until recently occupied by Bonaparte's cafe and restaurant.

Jill Bruce, Simply Food general manager, says: "The format is about making our quality food more accessible." This will be the ninth Simply Food branded shop to open. Several were launched in the West Midlands last December. In London examples can be found in Tottenham Court Road, Victoria Station and Moorgate. The total number of M&S stores will now be 339.

The Waterloo shop is expected to be aimed at both lunchtime shoppers and commuters travelling home late in the evening.

Sainsbury's has already announced that a Sainsbury's Local will open in Waterloo Road after Easter.
