M&S opens Waterloo food shop

London SE1 website team

Marks & Spencer's new Waterloo store had a weekend launch ready for its first full working week.

The M&S store, known as Simply Food, is on the Waterloo Station main concourse alongside Boots in the former Bonapart café and restaurant. The project was announced in mid-March just before Sainsbury's opened its supermarket in nearby Waterloo Road.

Simply Food general manager Jill Bruce says that the format is about making quality food more accessible. This is the ninth Simply Food branded shop to open. Victoria Station already has a Simply Food outlet.

The Waterloo shop was queue-free on its first Monday afternoon but numbers of shoppers rise during rush hours. Another possible busy time is after 10pm when Sainsbury's has closed.

M&S is open 7am to 11pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday hours will be 8am to 10.30pm.
