Golden Hinde to set sail for Southampton

London SE1 website team

The Golden Hinde, the replica of Sir Francis Drake's famous 16th century warship will be leaving St Mary Overie Dock this Summer and setting sail for the Southampton Boat Show.

Golden Hinde

The Golden Hinde Living History Museum is offering visitors the chance to see the real work involved in getting this spectacular Tudor warship ready for sea. Prior to its outing to the Southampton Boat show in September, visitors – guided by crew members in Tudor dress – will get the opportunity to see the craftsmen at work and learn about the techniques involved in the re-fitting this magnificent full scale replica before it sails the Thames.

Tours of The Ship will be running from 21 July to 15 August.

The Golden Hinde is a reconstruction of the famous ship in which Francis Drake became the first Englishman to circumnavigate the Globe, discovering unknown lands and robbing Spanish treasure in the process.

For all those that can't make these tours, there is a chance to see The Ship at the Southampton boat show between 12 and 21 September before it returns to London.
