Sexual assault at Elephant & Castle: police appeal for information

London SE1 website team

Police are appealing for a 'good samaritan' to get in touch with them after a woman was sexually assaulted at Elephant & Castle in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The female victim and her friends had been out socialising at The Coronet nightclub on Friday night into Saturday morning.

They left the Coronet at about 3.30am and the victim became separated from her friends on New Kent Road.

She attempted to contact her friends by phone and went down a side road off New Kent Road close to The Coronet.

As she ended the conversation a man grabbed her and dragged her into a nearby silver hatchback car.

She was then sexually assaulted inside the car with the door open. There were four men inside the vehicle who are described as being of Arabic appearance.

A white man – described as having a London accent – then approached the car and started remonstrating with the occupants.

The victim struggled and, with the help of the man, managed to escape from the car before calling the police.

Detectives would like to speak to the man as he may have vital information that could help in the investigation.

The number to contact with information is 020 7230 3733. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
