London Television Centre evacuated

A man allegedly walked into the London Television Centre on the South Bank armed with an alarm clock and a packet of sausages, threatening to blow up the building.

Philip Steels, 37, of Enfield will appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court.

He is being charged with communicating false information in connection with a bomb hoax and placing an article in connection with a bomb hoax.

The complex was evacuated and the area sealed off on Friday morning when a man walked into the building and threatened to blow it up.

The man walked out of the building at 12.45pm and was arrested by police who had surrounded the centre.

Pop star Louise was amongst those outside the cordon. She had been due to go into the studios to record some voice-overs.

The London Television Centre is best-known as the home of London Weekend Television and London Tonight. GMTV and This Morning with Richard and Judy are also produced in the complex.
