London SE1 website team

Police are investigating the circumstances of a fail to stop collision in which a 56 year old male pedestrian died.

The collision occurred at around 8.30pm on Tuesday on the Old Kent Road at the junction with Marlborough Grove. A silver BMW was in collision with the pedestrian.

The BMW was found abandoned in Ossory Road, approximately 300 yards from the collision. The vehicle was reported stolen.

It is believed that the BMW had activated an Automatic Number Plate Recognition signal, which was deployed on a vehicle crime initiative, and police were responding to the activation at the time of the collison.

The Directorate of Professional Standards is investigating the circumstances of the collision.

There have been no arrests.

Anyone with information should contact police on 020 8785 8168 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
