War Horse returns to the Olivier following its initial hugely acclaimed, sell-out run. Based on Michael Morpurgo's novel and adapted by Nick Stafford, the production is directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, and presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company. Returning from the original cast are James Barriscale, Finn Caldwell, Paul Chequer, Tim van Eyken, Thomas Goodridge, Stephen Harper, Gareth Kennerley, Craig Leo, Tommy Luther, Mervyn Millar, Emily Mytton, Toby Olie, Howard Ward and Alan Williams, who will be joined by Kit Harington (as Albert), Bronagh Gallagher, Curtis Flowers and Bryony Hannah.
WAR HORSE (suitable for age 12 and above) won the Evening Standard, Critics' Circle and Laurence Olivier Awards for the set design by Rae Smith and Handspring Puppet Company; Toby Sedgwick received the Olivier Award for his choreography.
At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
