Gritting The Tunnel

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

I Knit London is looking for graffiti artists and knitters to come together for an afternoon of 'gritting' (graffiti-knitting) in the Leake Street tunnel below Waterloo Station.

IKL wants to bring together graf artists and urban knitters to create some unique work in the tunnel.

Graffiti knitting, also called yarnbombing or urban knitting, is the art of leaving knitted pieces in the urban environment - covering bollards and street furniture, or knitting specific pieces as a comment on the landscape.

IKL will be using unusual and durable yarns (like cassette tape or electric flex) alongside regular materials and would encourage graf artists to spray the knitting as well as the walls.

IKL is looking for graffiti artists, knitters, crocheters, schools, craft groups and anyone else who wants to take part to come along on the day and let their imagination run riot.
