Sports & Literacy Camp

Over the first week of the Easter break, CoLA hosted a Sports & Literacy Camp in association with the Greenhouse Giants Basketball Club. The daily camp was organised and run by young sports leaders from the school, giving them the opportunity to complete their Sports Leaders UK Literacy Leaders Award. Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants of the Spring Camp CoLA will be running the Camp again this Summer.

The Summer Break Sports & Literacy Camp is aimed at year 5 & 6 primary school students.

The camp will be led by selected year 10 and 11 students from the City of London Academy. The Young Leaders either led at the Spring Camp, or are working towards their Sports Leader's Award. There will be at least one Young Leader for every five participants, and every area will be supervised by an adult.

Each day will include literacy activities to exercise participants' minds, and sporting activities (a choice of Football, Basketball, Table Tennis & Rounders) to exercise their bodies. There will be seminars on healthy living, with an emphasis on keeping fit and maintaining a healthy diet. The camp will also be used to identify talented students for entry to the Academy sports college after primary school, and coaches from the Greenhouse Giants Basketball Club will be scouting for the national league teams.

The camp costs only £10 per child per day, and there will be places for up to 100 participants per day. All money raised from this camp will go towards school trips for students at City of London Academy. All staff working on the camp will be working on a voluntary-basis as part of this student-led enterprise.

If you wish to take advantage of this great opportunity, please contact Mike Parry, City of London Academy, 240 Lynton Road, London SE1 5LA.

Interested parents can phone 020 7394 5100 and ask for Mr Parry, or email [email protected] and mark it for Mr Parry's attention.
