Victory Day Act of Remembrance at Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park

Event to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. 9 May is marked annually as Victory Day and is a national holiday in Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States countries.

Participants in the Act of Remembrance will include: The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Jeff Hook; The Rt Hon. The Lady Soames, LG, DBE, the youngest daughter of Winston and Clementine Churchill; the Russian Ambassador, HE Yury Fedotov; representatives from other CIS embassies; British and Russian Second World War veterans; standard bearers from UK veterans organisations, and other individuals and organisations.

At least eight Soviet war veterans visiting the UK for 65th anniversary events are expected to attend.
