Formed by 12 musicians in January 1984, the London School of Samba was the first samba school in the UK. Since then 300 samba groups have been formed around the UK.

LSS won best samba school at Notting Hill in 2006, and there are opportunities to be involved with this year's carnival. LSS also takes part in local events such as the Waterloo Carnival.

Dance and drumming classes are held every Sunday evening at the Waterloo Action Centre in Baylis Road. Admission to the workshops is £7 (concessions £5) for non-members and £6 (concessions £4) for members – this covers the costs of one or both dance and percussion workshops; visitors are encouraged to try both.
