Public invited to join Globe’s birthplace-to-Bankside sponsored walk

London SE1 website team

Keen walkers from the Friends of Shakespeare's Globe are walking 146 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon to Southwark this month to raise money for the theatre.

Peter Titchmarsh and Dominic Dromgoole
Shakespeare's Way was devised by Peter Titchmarsh, pictured herw with Dominic Dromgoole last May.

The Friends' goal, following their 21st Birthday last year, is to raise £21,000 to support the performance and education work of the Bankside replica of Shakespeare's playhouse.

The walk follows Shakespeare's Way, a long-distance walk launched last year to link the Bard's birthplace with his Bankside theatre.

Members of the public are welcome to sponsor a walker or even join up as a Friend (£35) and take part themselves, joining other Friends at any point during the walk. Taking part is free, however, all walkers must be sponsored – there is no minimum amount. To make an online donation visit www.justgiving.com/globefriends21birthday

The walk began on Saturday 17 March at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford-upon-Avon and will end on Bankside two weeks later.
