Police step up night patrols after bricks thrown through windows

Police in Borough and Bankside have increased their night-time patrols after a series of apparently random overnight incidents in which bricks have been thrown through ground-floor windows.

The London SE1 website understands that homes and a pub in Cathedrals ward and Chaucer ward have been targeted over the past couple of weeks.

"This form of crime has become a priority for our response and safer neighbourhoods teams," said Sergeant Craig Dunkason of the Metropolitan Police's Southwark burglary unit.

"Cathedrals Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) has changed shifts to conduct night foot patrols in an effort to catch the offender.

"Cathedrals SNT encourages residents to make contact with their local safer neighbourhoods team if they have any concerns and to contact police immediately if they witness anything suspicious."

In an emergency, call police on 999. Otherwise, ring 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to make an anonymous report.
