Future development in the Bankside and Bear Gardens Conservation Area at Bankside Community Space

Residents in 20 New Globe Walk have arranged a meeting chaired by Cllr David Noakes to discuss the issues about future development in the Bankside and Bear Gardens Conservation Area.

Planners from Southwark Council will also attend and answer questions on ongoing and future developments in the area.

Although no planning application has yet been submitted, developers have acquired Empire Warehouse, located between Bear Gardens and Rose Alley, and are planning to replace it with a 13-storey mixed use building. It would be about as high as Rose Court / Riverside House and contain a 127-bed hotel plus 9 flats and a museum.

Empire Warehouse could be permanently lost and there could be impacts from this development on traffic, noise from cars and increased footfall, loss of sunlight to neighbouring buildings and at street level.

Join the residents of New Globe Walk and make your voice heard at this open informal discussion event where you will be able to gather information on this development proposals and to share your views with other residents on Empire Warehouse and its conservation area.
