Interim Executive Officer for start-up childcare charity

The Parent Group of the Arc Nursery

c.£35-55k gross per annum

3 month initially, flexible hours with minimum of 25 hours per week

About this role

The Arc Nursery provides high quality childcare for 3 month old to preschool age children from the surrounding neighbourhood (London Bridge area). It will soon be run by the parents as a charitable trust to benefit the local community and we urgently seek an Executive Officer to help lead and manage this phase of transition and to help the Arc grow as a going concern.

Supported by a strong & committed team of parents (with expertise in finance, project & business management, HR & marketing) and by funding from Southwark Council, you will assist with developing & implementing a new business strategy to ensure the organisation has long term viability. In particular you will focus on:

• Project managing the transition phase to completion

• Establishing a new limited company as a charity with the Charity Commission

• Initiating a process for delivering effective marketing of the nursery, with the core short term aim of improving occupancy levels, and heightening awareness within the borough

• Review operations from a financial and business perspective

• Managing the financial aspects of the organisation, with both a tactical and strategic focus

• Supporting the development of a coherent and effective business strategy

Person description

As a talented business manager, with a proven track record of getting things done; you will be able to engage and communicate with parents and staff, potential funders, Southwark Council Officers, and a variety of other key stakeholders. The ability to co-ordinate parent volunteers and build momentum will be extremely important in this role, particularly in the early stages. Good local knowledge and awareness will be a great help, and experience of fundraising desirable. Ideally you will have strong financial management skills; however, bookkeeping and accountancy consultants can be made available for the right candidate.

You will have either your own office within walking distance of the Arc, or an office space away from the nursery will be provided. Ideally you will be self-sufficient as minimal administrative support will be provided. We are able to accommodate flexible working hours; however, because of the tight timescales, we are seeking an immediate start (mid December/early January at the latest).
