Development Manager

Bankside Open Spaces Trust

Scale 30 – 34 & Inner London Weighting (currently £28,771 – 31,935 total) pro rata

Part-time

About this role

Bankside Open Spaces Trust is developing an exciting new project to transform the Marlborough Playground into a Sports Garden. This previously empty park, close to London Bridge, will become an open-access, inner-city resource for play and sports. We will transform the space with new surfacing, planting, seating, fencing, signs and other practical changes, and employ staff to develop different ways of encouraging local people to try sports including Stay and Play sessions with all equipment provided, use by local schools, and specialist coaching. We are working to a model based on grant funding for the first three years, enabling us to develop on-site enterprise and sponsorship to ensure the project is self-sustaining beyond this time.

We are looking for an experienced project manager to oversee all of the above and ensure completion. The right person will have excellent management skills, including development, projects, finance and personnel, as well as the ability to manage their own time and prioritise tasks. You will have a strong understanding of community participation and equality of opportunity. While we don’t expect all of your professional experience to be in a sports context, we do need an ability to discuss sports and health and some understanding of the policy and practice context.

Hours: The initial contract will be for three years, covering a 4-day week for the first 23 months, then a 2-day week for the final 13 months in order to develop the Sports Garden and to allow a phased disengagement.

However BOST plans to develop this post in order to build our senior management team, and provide much needed development of future projects. This will be dependent on future funding, projects, and performance review.
