Protest at Octavia Hill estate plans

London SE1 website team

Tenants from the Church Commissioners' Waterloo estate marched from Ufford Street to the Commissioners temporary HQ in York Road to protest about plans to end the affordable housing policy.

The residents were joined by MPs Simon Hughes and Kate Hoey and Revd Richard Truss of St John's Waterloo.

During a meeting inside concern was expressed about families' adult children being unable to live in the area if market rents are introduced when properties fall vacant. Consultation ends this month. The Commissioners are expected to make a final policy decision in July.
