A Hollywood-style Walk of Fame could soon be coming to the South Bank, according to a report in this week's Sunday Express.
Stars of stage and screen will be honoured on the riverside walk between the National Theatre and the Royal Festival Hall, described by the paper as "the capital's most culturally vibrant stretch of land".
Television producer Michael Hurll has bought the rights to install the star plaques in the pavement. The Walk of Fame will be operated in conjunction with a major TV network – likely to be ITV, whose headquarters are situated on nearby Upper Ground. The commercial TV network also celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2005, and the Walk of Fame is seen as an ideal tie-in.
The names on the walk will be chosen by the public in a special annual TV series, culmuinating in a celebrity gala ceremony on the South Bank.
