A giant inflatable rubber tube will be issed to users when they set off on the 30-metre slide, to located between Shakespeare's Globe and Tate Modern.

"The slide promises to be one of the most fun things to do in London this Christmas," Cllr Columba Blango, Southwark's executive member for tourism, told the Evening Standard.

"It's a fantastic way for companies to start off their office parties and it does not involve booking ahead." The four-lane snow slidewill be ready for use on Friday 17 December – the day of the council's Frost Fair event – and will remain on Bankside until early January.

The artificial snow surface will take four days to install.

Shakespeare's Globe is running another event – also called the Frost Fair – every weekend until Christmas
