A novel of Southwark and Venice

Michelle Lovric, who lives in both Southwark and Venice, has set her new novel in the two locations.

The Remedy: A novel of London and Venice is a love story featuring a nun and a quack doctor in the late 18th century. The author shops at weekends either in Borough Market, a very short walk from her riverside London home, or in the Rialto Market which is near her palazzo on the Grand Canal.

Familiar Southwark places mentioned include The Anchor pub, Park Street and Stoney Street. Michelle not only researched local history but was also able to call on advice from the Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret for the so-called medicines peddled by the leading characters.

Michelle Lovric is the author of two previous novels published by Virago including Carnevale.
