Residents fuming over lift repairers' 'practical joke'

London SE1 website team

Residents of Dodson and Amigo estate complained to Southwark Council last autumn after lift repair workers replaced the lift buttons in the wrong order ... and they're still waiting for an answer.

Guthrie Court
Guthrie Court's lift buttons are arranged ground, 4th, 2nd

The minutes of a tenants' meeting held on 30 November 2004 record that "the lift maintenance workers have rearranged all the buttons in all the blocks. This is confusing for visitors & blind people. It had been reported to the housing department".

Depite numerous requests to the council and raising the issue in person at a number of meetings, more than six months later the situation is unchanged.

Residents were led to believe that the lift was an obsolete system and the buttons cannot be changed because there are no spares.

The tenants initially thought that the lift maintenance people were playing a practical joke and cannot understand why the buttons cannot be changed.
