BBC Daniel Deronda filming on the Thames at Blackfriars

Those out for a stroll on the Thames Path at Blackfriars Bridge on Sunday afternoon were surprised to see five Thames sailing barges on the river near Oxo Tower Wharf and film cameras on the foreshore working on a TV adaptation of George Eliot's novel

Hugh Bonneville, Romola Garai, Hugh Dancy and Jodhi May will star in Andrew Davies' three-part adaptation of George Eliot's Daniel Deronda, currently shooting for 11 weeks on location in Somerset, London, Surrey, Edinburgh and Malta. The adaptation reunites Andrew Davies with producer Louis Marks, the team behind the BBC's award-winning and widely acclaimed version of George Eliot's Middlemarch.
