Pedestrian killed in St George’s Road bus smash

A 67-year-old pedestrian died in a collision with a double-decker bus in St George's Road on Friday morning. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police were called at 9.55am on Friday 14 March to reports of a collision in St George's Road near the junction with Lambeth Road.

Officers say that it appears that a pedestrian was hit by an empty double decker bus which was travelling north.

67-year-old Alan Bayston of Lawn Road NW3 was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the Collision Investigation Unit based at Catford Traffic Garage, led by Sgt David Berry. He is appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything of the incident.

Sgt Berry says that police would also like to hear from anyone who knew Mr Bayston as they have not been able to trace any next of kin.

The incident caused extensive traffic disruption on Friday morning.
