SE1 So Solid Crew man refused bail

Jason Joab Phillips, leading member of garage group So Solid Crew and SE1 resident, has been remanded in custody after being arrested for a firearms offence.

The 24-year-old, who lives in SE1's Hercules Road, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in Gerard Place, on Thursday.

He was refused bail by Judge Nicholas Evans at Bow Street Magistrates' Court.

Phillips was described in court as the executive producer of the group and a central member of their music business activities.

The defendant, wearing a blue-grey tracksuit and trainers, spoke only to confirm his name and address. His girlfriend and fellow band member, Lisa Maffia, sat in the public gallery <

Reporting restrictions were not lifted.

Phillips will now appear for a bail hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Monday or Tuesday of next week. A date has yet to be fixed.

So Solid Crew, the controversial 30-strong south London garage act, have won two Mobo awards and a Brit award, and hit number one in August 2001 with 21 Seconds.
