Speaking in Potters Fields Park before the opening, Greek Tourism Minister Konstantinos Markopoulis said: "This is an exciting initiative aimed at promoting Athens and Greece in the European and American tourism market."

The 'Sphere' will move on to Paris and Berlin before being assembled in New York and Chicago.

The World of Athens is open daily 10am to 10pm until Bank Holiday Monday night.
