Harry Potter’s Knight Bus visits Borough Market

Eleanor Wallis

A purple, triple-decker bus pulled up under the viaduct on Stoney Street on Saturday; apparently en-route to 'Nothing Under Water'. It may have looked like a radical solution for Congestion Charging, but was in fact Harry Potter's Knight Bus.

Shooting of the third Harry Potter film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, commenced last Monday. By Saturday evening the crew had arrived in force at the Market to shoot the 'Leaky Cauldron' and 'Knight Bus' scenes. They filmed throughout the night and again on Sunday evening. The young actor Daniel Radcliffe, aka Harry Potter, was on set. A small crowd gathered on the side-lines hoping to get a glimpse of the star.

The Market didn't look significantly different. A few extra stalls were brought in and a cafe on Stoney Street was temporarily turned into a 'Third Hand Book Emporium'. Otherwise, the location should look eerily familiar to locals when the film hits cinema screens.

A spokesperson wouldn't confirm if the crew will be returning to the Market for further filming. But she did say that we will have to wait until 2004 to see the finished film.
