The Queen’s surprise visit to SE1

The Queen was in SE1 on Tuesday to visit the headquarters of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association behind Butler's Wharf.

SSAFA is the national charity helping serving and ex-Service men, women and their families in need. "We are the national charity helping serving and ex-Service men, women and their families in need. We are committed to helping people in need, suffering or distress, regardless of age or condition." says a spokesperson.

Last week the Queen paid short notice visits to service families in Essex and Devon. Today it is the turn of the services own charity which is monitoring the war in Iraq ready to help those injured or bereaved.

The Queen arriveed at the SSAFA headquarters in Queen Elizabeth Street at around 5pm.
