London SE1 website team

The London Eye was stopped as temperatures began to rise today. With 37 degrees centigrade being recorded on the riverside at County Hall, officials were concerned about temperatures inside the pods.

This is only the second time weather has slowed the Wheel but those who had booked trips appeared happy when asked to return on a cooler day.

Meanwhile 41 degrees was recorded on a bus in Stamford Street. IPC workers sought the shade of nearby Christ Church Garden to enjoy picnic lunches.

With reports of water selling at 2 a bottle to tourists on London's streets there was an increase in patrols on the South Bank ready to move on any illegal traders.
