A new poll of Londoners' favourite places to visit reveals that recent developments in SE1 have proved popular, with the London Eye and the Tate Modern beating more traditional attractions.

Thousands of Londoners took part in Transport for London's 'Vote London', which asked them to nominate then vote on the best places to eat, dance, relax and simply enjoy London. The poll was part of London Underground's Unlocking London campaign, which aims to create the ultimate insiders' guide to the city by revealing the places loved by Londoners – and how best to reach them by tube.

There are eight winners in the 2003 vote, representing the diversity of London's attractions for its residents and visitors. Each will be presented with a unique 'Loved by London' plaque.

The London Eye, Tate Modern and the South Bank took the top three places, with Soho, Hyde Park and Covent Garden appearing lower down the list.

"The poll has confirmed that Londoners have a real passion for their capital" said London Underground's Richard Parry.
