Violent attack in Harper Road: police appeal for witnesses

London SE1 website team

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was violently assaulted in the early hours of Sunday 4 October.

At approximately 3.45am a woman in her early twenties got off the 133 bus from Brixton to Borough.

As she reached Harper Road she was struck on the head from behind and felt a man groping her.

She managed to fight off her attacker, shouted at him and ran off to meet a friend who was waiting nearby.

Her attacker made off from the scene.

She was treated at hospital for facial injuries and has now been discharged.

Her attacker is described as a shaven headed white man, approximately 5' 6" tall wearing black clothing. He had no discernable accent.

Detective Carri Blackman from Southwark CID said: "This was a horrible attack on a young woman.

"Fortunately she managed to fight off her attacker, otherwise this could have been even worse.

"We are extremely keen to identify her attacker as soon as possible."

Anyone with information about this assault should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
