RV1 to avoid Sumner Street

London SE1 website team

The riverside RV1 bus linking Wateroo with Butler's Wharf is now running the length of Southwark Street.

Sumner Street bus stop

The diversion into Sumner Street at the back of Tate Modern has been abandoned following the introduction of a east-west one-way system.

Sumner Street has been temporarily narrowed to allow for contruction work on an electricity cable tunnel entry in the Tate's garden. Work is expected to last at least until the end of 2005.

The clear run for the RV1 along Southwark Street is being welcomed by some residents. With a pedestrian walk from Southwark Street through the Tate to the river due for completion around 2006 it is likely that the bus route will remain on the main road.
