The Frost Fair

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Frost Fairs were held on the tideway of London's River Thames between the 15th and 19th centuries when the river froze over.

This exhibition looks at this great tradition - where streets of stalls and booths stretched from bank to bank offering gifts, food and clothing, and entertainments made their way on to the river including bear-baiting, skating and puppet shows.

Between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve there will be interactive family storytelling sessions. Listeners will be able to play an active part in how traditional winter stories develop and play out.
