Become a star for the day when giant video wall celebrating Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture arrives in London Londoners are being invited to be a part of the celebrations and prove how Legenderry they are by showcasing their own artistic skills on a huge video screen.
To mark a year of celebrations in Derry~Londonderry, the Northern Irish city honoured with the title of the first ever UK City of Culture for 2013, and to highlight a packed programme of upcoming cultural events, an interactive digital wall will be installed on the South Bank to give the crowds an exciting taste of things to come.
In a city with a growing Northern Irish community, the wall will also put London in the spotlight as we invite the city's performers and budding entertainers to show off their skills on the day in front of our roving camera crew – whether they can sing, dance or impress with an extraordinary human feat! They can then see their efforts displayed on the big screen on the hour every hour.
The best performers will win the chance to perform on stage in front of thousands at one of UK City of Culture's biggest highlight events of the year – Music City in June – in an all-inclusive trip to Derry.
Special guests on the day include Mairead Carlin, the Derry-born singer who is the star of a new musical film being screened on the day.
Shona McCarthy, Chief Executive of Culture Company 2013, said: "We're thrilled that Derry~Londonderry has been honoured as the first ever UK City of Culture and we are proud to prove that just like London our city has its own unique voice.
"Above all, 2013 will be a year of celebration for the city – of dance, music and fun – and we want the people of London to be a part of that excitement by discovering some of the many cultural highlights coming up in Derry~Londonderry and by showcasing their own talents for our digital wall."
