The Off Broadway smash flies in to Southwark Playhouse this January, plunging its fangs into all that has gone before it. From the producer of In The Heights and the creative team behind Carousel at the Arcola, Bat Boy: The Musical promises to be a love child like no other.
Bat Boy: The Musical is inspired by a story run by The Weekly World News, an American tabloid who published fabricated stories which were purported to be factual, describing the discovery of a creature who is 'half human and half bat'. Bat Boy ran as a cover story on 23 June 1992 and was the second-best selling issue in the paper's history, instantly becoming a pop-culture icon.
Bat Boy: The Musical won New York's Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel Awards for Best Off-Broadway Musical in 2001. It received its UK premiere in 2004 at West Yorkshire Playhouse prior to a West End run at the Shaftesbury Theatre.
