Austin Osman Spare was an eccentric artist who, despite earlier promise of artistic stardom, eked out a sometimes precarious living in Southwark in his later years and died in relative obscurity and poverty. Recent fine biographies have been published by experts on Spare in recent years but, to keep his memory alive in the borough, heritage manager Judy Aitken revisits his story with this Illustrated talk.
