Cross Bones

A Guided Walk with John Constable

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Discover the lost history of Cross Bones, the burial ground for paupers and prostitutes in the heart of the Borough.

John Constable relates its desecration, rediscovery, and current restoration as a public open space and garden of remembrance.
John is a local writer who first revealed the Cross Bones story in his book The Southwark Mysteries and was the driving force behind the campaign to establish a place to 'honour the outcast'.

The Cross Bones Walk takes you round The Liberty of the Clink, its theatres, bear-pits, prisons and brothels licensed by the Bishop of Winchester. We finish at Cross Bones, the final resting place of the 'Winchester Geese'.

Under 16s welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult.
