The Borough Walk with Old Maps

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Ken Titmuss leads a walk with old maps exploring the neighbourhood south of Southwark Street.

The walk willtrace where the young Charles Dickens lodged while his father was in the Marshalsea and find the outer wall of the prison itself.

Among many former industrial buildings the walk locates what was originally St Saviour’s Workhouse and discover examples of the cottages that Octavia Hill was responsible for.

The tour will explore how a secret garden came to be and celebrate the achievement of Bella Burge.
