In music, dance and spoken word, the Waterloo Festival gala concert will commemorate both the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo and the centenary of the Gallipoli landings where several of Britain's most promising young composers and writers - like the celebrated poet Rupert Brooke - lost their lives.
St John's welcomes the acclaimed choir of Clare College, Cambridge and their director Graham Ross and young dancers from the Central School of Ballet to share the stage with resident orchestra Southbank Sinfonia.
Programme includes:
Beethoven - Fidelio Overture
FS Kelly - String Elegy in Memoriam Rupert Brooke
Barber - Adagio for Strings
Denis Browne - Three songs for tenor and orchestra
Denis Browne - The Comic Spirit (premiere) Gerald Finzi - Lo, the full, final Sacrifice Premieres of new works by Graham Ross and Tim Watts
