St George's Circus Walk with Old Maps

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Join Ken Titmuss for a walk with old maps exploring the streets laid out across St George's Fields; a grand Georgian scheme to connect roads that crossed the Thames.

Upon closer inspection you wil find some of the side streets were laid out following the medieval field pattern. There are fascinating buildings and institutions, some long gone.

Along the way you will encounter a Victorian woman who pioneered good quality children's homes, a photographer whose famous images appeared in Picture Post and the man who ran the Dog and Duck, named for the shape of nearby ponds.
