The 21st century offers us unprecedented opportunities to transform ourselves physically. Changing how our bodies work-our physiology-is rather more difficult.

Anaesthetist Dr Morley will describe how individuals have sought to enhance themselves in the past. Drawing on his clinical work, and his research at St Thomas' Hospital, he will also discuss our future possibilities as 'superhumans'.

Dr Andrew Morley is an anaesthetist and History and Archives Project Manager at the Physiological Society.

Morley College is an adult education college in Waterloo. Its oldest tradition, the Penny Lecture, dates back to when the college was founded in the 1880s. Listen to a lecture on an interesting and unusual topic, delivered by an expert, for just a penny. This event is part of Waterloo Festival
