A heart-warming play about football, war and real courage. Adapted for the stage and directed by Tony Graham.
The only thing Billy ever wanted to do was play for Chelsea. His dream came true when he was signed by the club and rose from the reserves to become a champion striker for the first team; the chant of 'Billy the Kid, Billy the Kid' from the Shed End ringing in his ears.
But that was in 1939. Then the Second World War began and Billy's life, like everyone else's, changed forever. True to a promise to his father never to fight in a war he became a paramedic, enduring the horrors of Tobruk and Belsen.
Injured in the closing days of the war, and unable to play football again, Billy sinks lower and lower, until the family of 14 year old Sam help to give him one last chance.
