An exhibition in the Design Museum cafe featuring shortlisted entries from a poster design competition run to mark the publication of Nick Hornby's first novel for teenagers. Seven current heroes of contemporary graphic design and illustration, between them responsible for hundreds of iconic album and magazine covers, ad campaigns and posters, were invited to design a poster of their teen hero. In addition they, along with Nick Hornby, have chosen their favourite images from hundreds of designs submitted in the national Slam poster design challenge for 13 to 25-year-olds - the shortlisted entries can be seen in the Design Museum Cafe.
As part of the UK launch of Nick Hornby's first teenage novel, Slam, Penguin and its youth marketing consultants, Livity, launched a nationwide poster design competition asking young people to design a poster of their hero. Thirteen finalists plus seven current heroes of contemporary graphic design and illustration, also invited to design an image of the individual who took pride of place on their bedroom wall, will now have their work exhibited.
