Cockney house sparrows

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Bernie Spain Gardens on the South Bank is home to a colony of house sparrows.

The reassuring chirping of sparrows is becoming harder and harder to hear, but come along to this event and friendly RSPB helpers will show you these lovely birds from the watchpoint and give you lots of information on what you can do to help them.

House sparrow numbers have declined by 68 per cent over the past 15 years and the RSPB is working very hard to find out why and to stop this downward trend. There are still a few colonies along the South Bank despite the constant pressures of urban life.
