Guided tours

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Following the success of the guided tours of St Mary Magdalen Church during the Bermondsey Street Festival, the parish is proposing to offer regular tours on Saturdays on a monthly basis.

The first tours will be on Saturday 31 October at 11am and 2pm. If you are interested, please e-mail [email protected] to book your place. If there are no advance bookings at all, the church will be closed (although you can take the chance that other people will have booked if you just turn up on the day).

These tours will last about an hour, perhaps more, and include the church ground floor and balcony, and the first floor of the medieval tower, for a suggested donation of about £5 per person. Photography is permitted.

For those who are fit and suitably attired, there will also be the possibility (at the discretion of the guide) of a 30 minute tour around the higher tower and the roof space, for an additional donation. Numbers for the tower/roof are strictly limited to three at a time due to the inherent dangers of ladders, beams and plaster ceilings.

The churchwarden is happy to discuss other arrangements for parties if you cannot manage these times.
