Shadows of the Wanderer at St John's Waterloo
Shadows of the Wanderer, 2008. Polychromed wood, 2.5 x 4 x 5.5 m

This major sculpture installation by Ana Maria Pacheco is being shown in London for the first time.

Ten over life size figures crowd close together, standing as looming shadows behind a young man carrying an older man on his back. This large sculptural group recalls the tale of Aeneas, who carries his father, Anchises, from the ruins of Troy. It also resonates powerfully with present-day issues, particularly the displacement of people.

The exhibition is accompanied by a series of thought provoking sermons and addresses on Sunday mornings.

The series focuses on London's diverse resident and transient communities and the issues of faith, justice, equality and civil interaction that impact on all.
