The ice, which he produced from a Tesco carrier bag, had fallen from a large iceberg in the Antarctic about three weeks ago.

The young explorer was promoting London Aware 08 due to take place at the Barbican during the weekend 10 and 11 May. The fair will promote environmentally sustainable products and services.

In April 2009 Nathan Allen will attempt to become the youngest person to trek solo to the North Pole when he sets out from a basecamp on the floating ice sheet. He hopes that his 150km trip will raise awareness of climate change as well as raising money for charity.

Also displayed at the Jubilee Gardens launch were NIC Car company electric cars.
